The Fat Friar was likewise murdered by Witch Hunters- though in his case he most likely didn't really try to defend himself, being a pacifist and all. He was overpowered by a guard, his wand was swiftly confiscated and without it he was defenseless. Sir Nicolas was arrested and very brutally executed by Muggles after he accidentally gave a woman tusks, while trying to fix her teeth. This suggests that, while they were mostly ineffective, the Muggles weren't nothing either.Ĭhildren were especially vulnerable, particularly those who lived near Muggles, but they weren't the only victims. However we know that the hunts were devastating enough that the entire Wizarding population chose to segregate themselves. Bit morbid, since countless people were tortured and killed, but whatever. In the books the Witch-Hunts were treated as a kind of gag about how stupid Muggles are, thinking they could kill witches. Historically, both sides have done a good job killing each other. But Wizards are also, on average, nowhere near as powerful as they're made out. Yes they are vulnerable to the Imperious, memory charms and wards. I do not think that the Muggles could swiftly destroy the Wizarding World even with their most advanced tech (at least not without destroying themselves too) but I also do not think that they are nearly as harmless or pathetic as most of the fandom sees them. I personally disagree with both these ideas. When it comes to the Harry Potter fandom this argument tends to go one of two ways:Įither people think Muggles are superior and would annihilate Wizards in an open fight, hence why they hide, or they think that Muggles are completely defenseless against magic- the statute of secrecy and good men like Dumbledore being the only reason they weren't easily enslaved long ago.
