![]() Outsole: I have worn these for many years and many miles and they have worn amazingly well. The patina on these is insane and I can only hope to get my current lineup of boots to look like these down the road. ![]() About a year ago I threw on some Cadillac Leather Lotion and they drank up a couple coats of that quickly. After that, I legit did nothing to them for the next 17 years. I sprayed silicone (yes, silicone) on them the first 2 winters I wore them to make them more water resistant. ![]() Leather: I remember thinking that the brown color that these originally were was perfect, I was so happy with the color with them and I still feel that way today. I recall some decent heel slip at the time and I am sure its partially due to the very tough/rigid outsole and the overall fit/last of the boot. The insole doesn’t offer much in terms of cushion, but I can tell you they are tough…they are still original to the boots! Not having any money at the time I also wore these boots everywhere I went and that included some longer walks in the woods when hunting. The length is absolutely perfect for me and they are extra wide and I really appreciate. I will break them out when doing some construction projects here and there but mostly these are just a collection of memories at this point.įit: I am a size 10 Brannock and these are a 9.5. For the last 5 years they get minimal wear as I have a rotation of Red Wing heritage boots and a pair of Truman boots that are my go-to these days. They were used like that up until 2015 when I had an outsole issue (see below). Then around 2010 my interests changed in footwear and I was only wearing these for yardwork and some small construction projects. Once I got an office job, they were my weekend/after work and yardwork boots for the next 4 or 5 years. Work, school, the bar, parties, everywhere. Use: these were my everyday year round boots/shoes for the first 4 years I owned them. Big money for a recent high school grad working construction in the summers. My girlfriend at the time worked at Kmart so I used her 15% employee discount to snatch these boots up for right around $60.00. I got these in the summer of 1999 when in my second year doing construction I decided I had stepped on enough nails wearing sneakers that I should invest in some proper work boots. I realize that this may be the cheapest GYW boots ever reviewed on this forum but I cannot see a better place to provide this review and pics. What they looked like new (taken from Cat site, there are some small changes in the design over the years, I like mine better) As we said before, one wrong turn on a construction site, and it can be more than enough to hurt you.Boot: Caterpillar Second Shift Steel Toe Work Boot – 21 Year Review They are your last line of defense after your helmet because they give you the grip to stand upright on harsh surfaces and also protect your feet and ankles from twisting.
